Tree Climber

Job Requirements and Qualifications    

Worker must have at least 2 years of full time experience in tree climbing and the removal of various sized trees.
•Worker must be comfortable working at heights and able to install climbing lines, access the tree canopy and complete job assignments in an efficient and safe manner.
•Worker must be able to proficiently climb trees, using modern access techniques, without the use of climbing spurs.
•Worker must be familiar with standard rigging techniques to safely lower material to the ground.
•Possessing an ISA Certified Arborist credential and a CDL are preferred.
•Worker must arrive on time each day ready to work in a healthy physical and mental state, as well as professional appearance.
•Worker must participate in tailgate safety meetings, job site briefings, and on the job training.
•Worker must complete job assignments as instructed by supervisor in a safe, skilled and professional manner. If unsure of any job assignment or instructions given, worker is expected to ask questions and seek clarification before proceeding with job duties.
•Worker must be familiar with and properly use all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) made available to them. This equipment includes, but is not limited to: helmet, hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, high visibility clothing, and cut resistant chainsaw chaps when using chainsaw on ground.
•In addition to PPE worker must provide and wear sturdy boots, long pants and clothing appropriate for predicted weather conditions. Uniform shirts will be provided by company.
•Worker must be physically able to lift, carry, and drag at least 50 pounds of material across uneven terrain for extended periods of time. Worker must also be able to perform job duties outdoors under various and sometimes inclement weather conditions.
•Worker must possess and maintain a valid New York driver license and reliable personal transportation to and from work.
•Worker must possess and maintain a valid First Aid and CPR certification before or within 30 days of employment.

Job Duties

•Climb trees using modern and safe tree climbing techniques to perform various task within the tree canopy. These tasks include pruning, large branch removal, whole tree removal, cable installations and others.
•Climb trees without the use of climbing spurs unless entire tree or tree section is being removed.
•Fell standing trees when possible and safe to do so.
•Perform tree care operations from aerial lift on bucket truck.
•Effectively communicate with ground crew to facilitate a safe and efficient job site.
•Drive company vehicles (some requiring a CDL) to and from job site. Once on site, worker must assist with arranging vehicles in an organized manner to maximize job site safety and work flow •efficiency. Worker is also expected to be able to back up trailers and chippers in tow in a safe and skilled manner.
•Safely operate dump bed on some work vehicles in the disposal of woodchips and other woody material.
•Assist with the disposal of brush and larger sections of wood from tree removal and pruning work.
•Safely operate wood chipper and other compact machinery during tree service operations.

•Perform basic daily and weekly maintenance on company vehicles, chainsaws, and other equipment.
